About Making Dinner Rolls and Making Money

making dinner rolls and making money

A few months ago I attended a Food Entrepreneurs Conference, in preparation of our commercial kitchen, it was GREAT! At the conference Patricia Barns, of Sister Schubert’s dinner rolls, was the keynote speaker. She was wonderful and had an incredible testimony. Her love of the Lord and family and orphans left me in tears and speechless.

I never buy cookbooks any more, everything is free online, who doesn’t love Pinterest? But after I heard her speak I got in line to buy her cookbook Celebrations of the Heart. I was not disappointed when I read in the back of the book that all of the profits go to ALS research. The book is beautiful and filled with do-able family recipes with ‘normal’ ingredients and gorgeous pictures!

A Place for Women to Thrive in Business

Home should be a natural greenhouse for feminine industry, a place for women to thrive in business and still embrace the calling of home life.

Blisters are still made.

Struggle and toil still happen and hearts are still broken.

Income is still earned and bills still paid.

But the rewards are unfathomably greater and the success sweeter.

The women here don’t have time for meaningless gossip and water cooler chats, because they have a foundation of purpose and a far reaching vision. They are more than just wage slaves, they have the freedom to take risk.

The Real Purpose of Eating Together

purpose real of eating together

When you share a meal with someone, whether it be a gourmet seven-course meal or a burger and fries, it intensifies your relationship.

Eating together binds hearts.

As often as possible, a family should eat at least one meal together each day.

Sitting at the table together over a meal seems to connect us in a way that doesn’t happen in any other situation. This is my favorite time of day, not so much because of the food, but because of the conversation and laughter. It’s not always good, always happy, but we are together and working through issues.

Make Ahead Brunch Ideas

Brunch Ideas

If you have been a reader of this blog for any amount of time you know I’m all about family and community. I love gathering people around my table and practicing hospitality.

I find it interesting that there was a table with food and drink in the temple. That one of the sacraments of the Church is around a communion table. Jesus often used the gathering around food to teach and satisfy. One of the last times He spoke intimately with his disciples was around a table.

10 Attributes of the Fierce, Fearless Femina

10.) She’s meek.

She’s powerful, but self controlled. But her whit and wisdom keep her power in check, she keeps a tight reign on her force. She understands that power restrained builds empires, where unleashed force can only destroy.

(Didn’t you see Frozen? Yeah, don’t let that go…)

9.) She has a plan.

She’s not out there living willy nilly, hoping that good things happen. She knows what she wants. She has goals, a vision and nothing is going to stop her. She has an in-writing, achievable timeline for getting what she wants.

Where is Somewhere?

Posted by Olivia

After writing, From a Homeschooler Who Obviously Survived, I’ve received a lot of commentary on the subject of life after schooling. My favorite comment so far has been this:

“What I want to know is does the author have a real job, with benefits that’s going somewhere?”

When I read this, I was excited for two reasons. Firstly, it gave me reason to reevaluate my plan. My 5 year and 10 year plans are detailed road maps to my somewhere. While my two jobs (between 70-80 hours a week), two bi weekly cleaning jobs, monthly non profit work on the board of directors of a crisis pregnancy center and my other ventures may not seem glamorous right now, they are in fact a calculated, well thought out part of my plan.

High School Students, Listen Up - 5 Things Before You Graduate

1. Have a Plan

It does not have to be a grand, change the world kind of plan, but you do need a plan. You are an adult now, so it’s time to make some adult decisions.

And if you are a girl, your plan can not be to sit and wait for Prince Charming. You need a set of goals to keep you driven, whether you are a stay at home daughter or not.

Decide on what you want to do, make a timetable with reasonable deadlines to make it happen and start pursuing it immediately.

The 3 W’s - Reevaluating Homeschooling

If you have ever walked into a homeschool curriculum fair for your first time you no doubt walked out overwhelmed and confused. The choices for homeschooling methods and curriculum are endless.

Even after homeschooling for over 20 years you’d think I’d have no doubts or questions on what to do.

When you factor in the unique needs of each child and the changing seasons of life along with new and better curricula, most of us will find ourselves reevaluating what we are using.

Are We Deceiving the Children?

Where did we get this concept that summers are a time of living carefree? You know, those lazy, hazy days of summer?

These long days of summer are to be enjoyed, but this mentality of 3 months of doing nothing but fun in the sun is wrong.

Summers should actually be our busiest time. This is the time to sow, weed, water and harvest.

Back in the agricultural days kids took a break from “school” to be able to help work the family fields and farms. They understood the work that it took to keep everyone alive.

Raising a Generation of Wimpy and Selfish Women

Disclaimer to save you time sending the hate mail:

  • Education is good, we should all be educated and never stop being educated, but let’s not throw out good common sense and a strong work ethic while we are at it.
  • Money is good, if you don’t love it. It is a needful tool in dominion work, but let’s not pursue riches over wisdom.
  • I know there are seasons of illness and hardships that make life extra hard - this is not about you.

Exhausted

Stressed Out

Overwhelmed

These are common words to describe today’s mother. I hear it everywhere. I read moms venting on Facebook, Twitter, etc… of the heavy burden of motherhood and homemaking.

Yes, motherhood is demanding.

Homemaking is challenging.

Being a good wife is tough!

I am there with you, I really am!
