Teaching Good Things - Practical Skills for Real Life

From Daydreams to Sweat and Progress

Real Chronicles Bakers Daughter

“Please keep your hands and feet inside the ride at all times” the train conductor announced over the out dated speakers as we started our trek around the zoo, “we’re moooooooving!” His old man voice, enthusiastically reciting the lines he gives so many times each day, rings in my head like a mantra. We’re moving! Not sell your house and box everything up moving, but “on-to-the-next-step-of-the-plan-we’ve-got-some-momentum-building” moving.

We’ve gained some attention from neighbors and friends locally for our baked goods and while the demand grows much faster than we anticipated we aren’t ready to build the barn yet. So we are adding a large sun-room onto our little cottage and modifying it for a bakery. Is there anything so delicious as a bakery attached to your house? Yum.

This works out really well because it adds value to our house, can be built by the Man and some friends, is very cost effective, convenient and… like icing on the cake, will be approved by the health department and the city council of the residential community we live in. Those two things alone are miracles in themselves.

Because of our location, we won’t be able to have an actual store- you can’t come browse around and chat, you’ll have to shop from our website and order via phone or email. Bright side, you can have it delivered to you!

In other news, this is Debbie. Debbie is our banker. She has bent over backwards to help us finance our project. She has advised, instructed and guided us with no pressure, allowing us to decide exactly what we need with the least amount of risk. We love her. <3

While we’ve still got a bus load of things to figure out, doors are opening, progress is being made and each day we are a few faltering steps closer to realizing our family dream.

As of today, we really need to start finding equipment. A three (or two) door refrigerator and an upright freezer are big needs, along with a 3 bin sink (stainless steel) and double convection oven. If you know of anyone who has decided to bow out of the restaurant scene, they would be a great referral for us!

Stay tuned for building progress and messy life pictures. We’re excited about years of daydreaming turning into actual sweat {a few tears} and real progress. This is exciting. This is challenging. And we are so up for it.

Until next time, stay calm and eat cake,

The Bakers Daughter
