About Making Dinner Rolls and Making Money

making dinner rolls and making money

A few months ago I attended a Food Entrepreneurs Conference, in preparation of our commercial kitchen, it was GREAT! At the conference Patricia Barns, of Sister Schubert’s dinner rolls, was the keynote speaker. She was wonderful and had an incredible testimony. Her love of the Lord and family and orphans left me in tears and speechless.

I never buy cookbooks any more, everything is free online, who doesn’t love Pinterest? But after I heard her speak I got in line to buy her cookbook Celebrations of the Heart. I was not disappointed when I read in the back of the book that all of the profits go to ALS research. The book is beautiful and filled with do-able family recipes with ‘normal’ ingredients and gorgeous pictures!

I LOVE her story of how she took a family recipe and built a million dollar business with it! I love even more that she gives God all of the glory for it and how she uses her wealth to meet the needs of the poor, especially orphans.

Be sure to go to her website and watch her 2 minute video, it’s better than this one below, it wouldn’t let me embed it.

I love how in the video on her site she quotes her grandmother as she makes a fuss over the dinner table saying, “I could have no finer company than my family!” Isn’t that a beautiful statement?! Our families are worth it!!!

Yesterday was a serious baking day here, after the schoolwork was done! I had 200 servings of wedding cake to bake and Cherish set out to make dinner rolls for the freezer.

She used Sister’s recipe out of the cookbook.

She made a huge mess… but it was worth it, and that will improve with age, she’s only 11.

She made four batches!

She ended up with 10 packages of rolls.

9 batches went into the freezer and we had one for supper.

YUM!!!

She’s not making these to sell…yet. She has a few things to master still, but maybe one day we will offer these from our bakery kitchen!

Many states allow you to sell low-risk foods from your home.
