Yankee T-Shirt Quilt

So what do you do with all those t-shirts you’ve saved from high school, teams, concerts, races…whatever… ?

You make them into a quilt!

Here is one I made several years ago that included adding this boy’s scouting patches to the boarder. He took it to college with him!

There are several ways of making a t-shirt quilt, but using the rag quilt technique is the easiest!

How to Make Quilted Pumpkin Potholders

You will need:
small amount of green fabric
small amount of orange, maybe 1/4 of a yard
scraps of batting
(I always save my quilting scraps of fabric and batting)
Thread
Sewing Machine
Scissors

Cut a strip of green fabric about 1 1/2 – 2 inches wide and 12 inches or so long.
Just estimate and using scraps,
it does not need to be exact.

Fold the strip in half and press it;
fold both sides in and press it;
then in half again, press it, like a double bias tape.

Winnie the Pooh Baby Quilt for Javi

We are a week away from Baby Javi’s due date. Other than Emma’s belly getting bigger and bigger she doesn’t seem to be ready to make her appearance anytime soon.

I finished her baby quilt this week. I bought this Winnie the Pooh fabric right after Josh and Emma told us they were pregnant.

Around the boarder I wrote quotes from Pooh.

This quote I adjusted a bit, took out the word “friend” and added “grandma”: “A day without a grandma is like a pot without a single drop of honey left.”

Why You Should Learn to Quilt $$$

When my girls were younger I wanted them and myself to learn some sewing skills. I thought quilting would be easier than sewing garments…little did I know I had sparked a whole new passion in our lives!

People love quilts for different reasons, perhaps their grandmother quilted, or someone gave them a special gift of a quilt one time; whatever the reason may be, once a quilt holds a special place in your heart, you have an appreciation for all quilts!

It Does Not Have to be Expensive!

:)

Baby it’s cold outside! How about working up some scraps into a WARM quilt?! Nothing beats the warmth of a quilt.

You don’t need new fabrics to make a quilt. Think about the (cotton) clothes you have that are not being worn. What about what the kids have outgrown? How about old sheets? Quilting does not have to be an expensive hobby. It actually started out as a necessity, making do with what you had. Maybe it’s time to recapture the art of quilting with the purpose it started with?!

A New Patchwork Quilt

Olivia shares a room with her younger sisters. I give her decorating freedom to do what she wants, within reason. So she recently painted the walls from a lime green (Emma’s choice a few years ago), to a very calm grey.

Jeff built a bunk bed for the two younger girls and with Emma now married and out of the nest, there is actually an empty wall, Liv calls this her ‘serenity wall’. During this week she filled her serenity wall with a quilting project.

Fiber Arts Monday - Nine Patch Doll Quilt

Several years ago I made this Nine Patch quilt for a costumer.

The pictures do not show the true bright colors of this quilt.

This is probably one of my favorite quilts I’ve made.

I had a bunch of extra 9 patch squares left over that I had planned on using in a quilt for me one day, but I still haven’t gotten around to it. So when little Peaches’ birthday came around a couple of weeks ago and we were doing gifts that focused on baby dolls (and being a good mommy), I made her a quick doll quilt, using some of the squares and part of a sheet.
