Why We Celebrate Gotcha Day - Year 2

2 years gotcha

2 years ago today we walked into a Chic-fil-a and met these children for the first time. We were nervous, scared and excited. On this day we started being mom and dad, slowly bonding with them and providing for them. Their big sister Olivia, was at home baking cinnamon rolls for them and entertaining a social worker until we arrived. Olivia was already loving on them. There first smell when they walked into our home was sweet cinnamon.

We had no idea how it would all pan out. Would we end up being mom and dad to these children, or would be able to help them and their birth mom have a fresh start in life? We had no idea and had to just trust God.

As the weeks turned onto months it was obvious we were to be mom and dad. 6 months after these children were abandoned with us we were given custody. 16 moths later they were adopted as Brodocks.

The things that God has done though them and for them have been absolutely amazing! The grace that God poured out on them… and us, leaves me speechless. Some days are hard… very hard, but they are worth it. Just as we are worth it to our Heavenly Father.

[inlinetweet prefix=”Tweet This” tweeter=”” suffix=”null”]Why do we celebrate Gotcha Day? It’s not to lavish the children with gifts or special attention - they get that all the time. This day is to remember God’s goodness, His mercy, His grace![/inlinetweet]

It’s the same reason why we make a big deal out of birthdays and anniversaries, to remember God’s goodness!

This past year these precious souls became a permanent part of our family through adoption. We have had many… MANY years of heartache, crying out to God and finding contentment before He brought these children to us. I never take it for granted. Some days I look at them and can’t believe God chose us for them… I just can’t believe it because we are not worthy! I often say that we are the ones that needed to be rescued from ourselves… our selfishness.

Rejoicing in His goodness!

*Smiling* Beautiful photos. Beautiful memories. Praise the Lord for bringing these precious children to your family, and your family to these precious children. Only God could orchestrate all that! And Olivia - entertaining a social worker and making cinnamon rolls. I’m thinking the Lord has big plans for her! Thanks for sharing this - and the book suggestion!

Kathy…we have all been blessed with God’s goodness to the Brodocks! THANK YOU for giving us faithful, honest peeks. Every face in your home shines.

We opened our home to an exchange student last year. She returned on a visit this winter and during that visit I was able to lead her to Christ. It is AWESOME :)

God truly is good, Deb! Wonderful news about your exchange student. We had a Swedish student about 12 years ago. We still hear form him from time to time. :)
