Start with a simple skirt for a toddler. I thought it was impossible, but it really isn’t that difficult. Circle skirts are very easy too. Dana made it blog has a great tutorial for both.

Great response Heather.

I’m teaching sewing to my 4H group, American Heritage Girls and a group of refugee ladies at church. For them, as for me, frugality is everything. I’d love to learn and teach pattern drafting for ever more independent sewing that won’t break the bank!

I know you said this is only for US readers, but I can give you one of my adults kids’ US addresses to send this to if I win it, so I hope you’ll keep me in the running.

My weakest area in practical living skills is organization - I’m easily distracted and easily discouraged. My visits here always encourage me.
Karen says:
I am homeschooling my youngest daughter, who is disabled. She has just finished her junior year with the home-making segment on what she labeled “kitchen duty.” She learned to shop for, stock and rotate the pantry, how to store and choose the proper utensils for each kitchen task, and how to store dining linens according to “theme” and season. She also learned more cooking techniques as she furthered her practice of meal planning and preparation. He cutest was the pioneer meal, using recipes from the “Cowboy Cookbook,” using great grandma’s dishes, bandana tablecloth, and topping it off with classic country music. In her senior year her elective will be sewing, and she has already decided to make a Santa pillow for her nephew as one of her projects. This beginner sewing machine would be perfect for her small hands, and would not confuse her while learning the basics.

Sewing has always been a struggle for me. In public school, I had one year of home economics that included one semester of sewing and one semester of cooking. Since I was on the ‘academic’ or ‘college’ plan, I was unable to take more practical lessons. Now that I’m homeschooling, I realize that the only thing I really do sewing-wise is mend by hand or sew on buttons! With this sewing machine, my children would be able to learn sewing and I could refresh my memory! Thanks for this great giveaway opportunity!

Mollie J. Mc says:
After watching my mom raise us 9 kids, with the same sewing machine she had for years, it would be great to teach my now granddaughter, I raise, to sew. She loves to make doll clothes and sew little things. I am teaching her crocheting, as you see kids now a days not using anything except high tech items, instead of use of their own hands making something. This is a great thing you are doing.
Blessings,
Mollie

Rachel M. Dow says:
I’d say that as far as practical skills go, I probably need the most help with how to order my days. I was never taught proper time-management ( or any time management for that matter!) While growing up and it still plagues me, which is very difficult while homeschooling & trying to be the best wife, mother and homemaker. I would love to win this machine for my daughter. She is just learning to sew and this would make the perfect start to sewing on her own! ( What a wonderful thing it would be for us to be able to sew together at the same time!!)

My biggest challenge with sewing (and many other fun things) is making the time. My daughters enjoy sewing, so they often take on those projects. There’s a young lady In my life whom I love dearly (my 7-year-old granddaughter). She’s taking sewing lessons and saving for her first sewing machine. I’d LOVE to bless her! 😀
April says:
Organizing! We have a very small home, and it is so easily overrun with things, and gets away from me so quickly.
