The Best Way to Start a Revolution

You want to be a rebel?

You want to start a revolution?

People need purpose.

Without purpose people perish or get “judge-y” and uncool.

Your purpose doesn’t have to be the axis of a major market or the defining word on federal law. It can be as simple as selling boiled peanuts at the Piggly Wiggly in the backwoods of Alabama. Worth, real worth, is not measured by monetary value or pedigree, class or corporate status. Rather it is determined by how much of ourselves we are willing to surrender to our commission, to our daily, boring, ordinary jobs. Worth is, or at least should be, measured by our faithfulness.

Should Kids Help Pay?

Diana left this comment in the comment section of The Two Most Important Things in Education:

As our kids are getting into the higher teens and they are getting income from various places we have struggled with what to require of them (for example a friend our ours has her children contribute half of any income they earn to the family..but she is a single mom now with 8 kids and they need to do that..they are very hard workers and really take care of each other). We want a family economy but just aren’t sure what to require. We don’t want to encourage mooching as they head into adulthood but feel a bit guilty about having them contribute cash.

How to Host a Thanksgiving Feast and Unit Study

Purpose: Fellowship, food, education in the form of an opportunity for our kids to research, study and prepare a presentation about the first Thanksgiving (public speaking skills). Their presentation does not have to be long, detailed or polished. This is a good starting point for the younger children, even if they only tell one fact.

2 Weeks Before Feast Day

Each family began their own unit study/research. Each child is asked to dress in character and present something they have learned; it can be a poem, a song, a reenactment, a speech, whatever they want.

A Jack and Jill Style Shower

Last weekend we helped host a Jack and Jill style shower with an Italian flavor for Tucker and his soon-to-be-bride! It was a lot of fun to include the guys and kids on the festivities. As I said a couple weeks ago, we are in a heavy shower and wedding season.

We had pizza and salads…

and LOTS of desserts!

These were a really easy and fairly inexpensive favor for the guests. I’m going to show how to make them next week.

When Death Comes to the Door

Death is a part of life.

We are all dying.

Our days are numbered by the Almighty.

A man’s days are numbered. You know the number of his months. He cannot live longer than the time You have set. Job 14:5

We all know this, yet when death visits us we are often caught by surprise.

Two weeks ago a sweet friend had her unborn baby called home to eternity. She was 35 weeks pregnant when her daughter’s heart stopped beating.

The 100 Fold Seed of Gladys Newton

The children and I are working through the New Testament in the mornings. It is a very slow go as it takes me about a week to get through one chapter because we talk about it… a LOT.

Many times our reading will lead into other studies, such as it did last week. We’ve been reading about the sower, which lead to some study on roots, seeds, growth, etc… and what 60 fold and 100 fold meant.

The Disease That Will Destroy Your Home

Most marriages can not survive with it and children will NEVER thrive with it. Families, friendships and churches are destroyed because of it. It is the curse of a critical spirit.

What is a critical spirit?

Criticism can be anything from belittling, condemning, demanding, fault-finding, nagging, sarcasm, and scolding disapprovingly. A critical spirit is an obsessive attitude of fault-finding and judging others unfairly.

Breathing Life…

My sweet, sweet, SERVING Cherish. As I struggled with some dehydration yesterday morning she brought fresh fruit and cool water to my recliner. Her tender, servant heart always convicts me, she serves with such meekness.

I WANT TO BE MORE LIKE HER.

I am glad we did not say “…she is too old to adopt.” I am thankful my husband did not say, “…kids cost too much, are too much work, or we are too old.”

Why God Gives Us Difficult People to Love!

We all have one… most likely more than one. You know, those people in your life that you HAVE TO love, or at least get along with. It may be an in-law, a sibling, an aunt, a parent, people at work or church or maybe even a child.

They are those people that seem to be so full of pride, making their way known to all, being selfish as they put their needs ahead of everyone else. Or they may be that one who is always complaining, finding fault in people or even manipulating others so they come out on top.

So Where Do We Start?

I received many private emails in response to last week’s post, I challenge you….

A few emails had the same questions like the one I received from “Mandy”, she has given me permission to share her email with all of you.

” Homeschooling my 3 kids and keeping home and managing the finances keeps my days full. I just… found out that the place my husband works is closing. We are just trying to keep our heads above water. I do try to be an encouragement to other moms in our homeschool group, but we neither have the space (very tiny house), the time, or the money to have people in our home.
