Teaching Good Things - Practical Skills for Real Life

Make a kid feel stupid

disobedience

I will admit, I have days that I will see or hear something from one of the younger children and just shake my head in disbelief. Then I have to remember

“Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child…”

Proverbs 20:15

Kids are just that, KIDS. They need teaching in a ‘spirit of love’, not a reaction of annoyance. THAT is why God gave them PARENTS! They can’t handle the world on their own!

Make a kid feel stupid when his thinking is just ‘childishness’ and he’ll sure enough grow up thinking he is stupid. He’ll either be a victim feeling like he’ll never measure up or he’ll be a prideful idiot trying to prove to everyone how smart he is.

Let us be careful not to become too frustrated with their foolishness, which usually happens when we get too busy to teach and disciple.

There is also a big difference between a foolish child moment and a disobedience moment. Both need to be handled in different ways.

Good parenting is a full time job. You have to be on your game.
