Teaching Good Things - Practical Skills for Real Life

Breathing Life…

My sweet, sweet, SERVING Cherish. As I struggled with some dehydration yesterday morning she brought fresh fruit and cool water to my recliner. Her tender, servant heart always convicts me, she serves with such meekness.

I WANT TO BE MORE LIKE HER.

I am glad we did not say “…she is too old to adopt.” I am thankful my husband did not say, “…kids cost too much, are too much work, or we are too old.”

The Love Story and Wedding Video

Ever since our children were very young we’ve prayed on a regular basis for their future spouses, and for their children. We’ve prayed for a spirit of contentment while they prepare for married life.

We have always hoped that our children would marry young, but we also know that it is God’s timing, not ours.

How They Met

Several years ago our daughter Olivia would occasionally travel with a military family to help with their young children. On a couple of their trips they would stay at a base in FL that had a sister church to our church. That church was also part of a homeschool community. Olivia first met Josh and his mother and brother through those visits.

The wedding was beautiful, the Lord granted perfect spring weather, calm spirits and a LOT of helping hands!

We had a bunch out of town guest for several days which was fun! But combine that with wedding craziness I am pretty much exhausted, even though I loved it and am so thankful, SO VERY THANKFUL to find our new normal, minus one person, it is a bitter-sweet thing.

It will be a week or so before we get the pictures from our photographer, but Olivia was able to snap some of the dress reveal.

Wedding on a Budget: Favors - Homemade Soap

BeFunky_IMG_0571[1].jpg

Several weeks ago I made up a bunch of homemade soap

to be given to our wedding guest in a couple of weeks.

Thankfully I had all the supplies left from my last soap making class, so these cost me almost nothing to make. I did buy some lemon essential oil to add in, I’m not happy with the fragrance so I won’t use that one again.

This soap has castor oil, coconut oil, palm oil, olive oil and lye. I threw in some flax seed for exfoliating, and the lemon fragrance so it wouldn’t be too froo-froo for guys. It takes about 6 weeks to cure. I cut strips of paper lunch bags and a piece of twine to ‘package/label’ them.

A Barn Wedding and a Free Book

Last weekend we attended a barn wedding. It was pretty neat. The bride’s family are bluegrass singers and the wedding was on their family property.

LOTS of people…

LOTS of food!

It was more like a community event, where everyone brought food and took part in this very happy occasion.

Everything was decorated so beautifully.

I made the bride’s cake.

The 4 Week Countdown- This is some tough stuff!

I’m still here! I know blogging here has been pretty scarce the last few weeks, but that is what happens when real life interrupts my virtual life. 😉 The Lord is teaching me so much.

The only reason I am typing right now is because I’m sitting beside a 3 year old who NEEDS a nap desperately and the quickest way to accomplish that is to sit here next to her and make sure she doesn’t sing, tell stories or turn acrobats on my bed instead of sleeping. 😉

The Importance of Responding to an RSVP

The acronym R.S.V.P is short for the French phrase “repondez s’il vous plait”, which means “respond if you please”.

If you receive an invitation with an RSVP request, it is proper etiquette to respond. It is best to reply as soon as possible and keep your response brief letting the host know whether you are accepting or declining, including any other information asked for in the RSVP.
