You know those cold winter nights that you just can not get warm? Rice packs are the answer! All you have to do is pop them in a microwave for 3 minutes, flip them over and heat for another 3 minutes ( do not over heat). They stay warm a long time. I love to use mine when my legs ache or if I have a stiff neck. Oh, and during those times of the month that the lower back aches…you can't beat a warm rice pack.
These can even be kept in the freezer for when you need an ice pack.
These are SO easy to make and are perfect gifts for anyone! If you buy your rice in bulk (Sams) they are fairly inexpensive.

Sew together like a pillow case, about 8"x10" or whatever size you want. Sew 3 seams to make 3 compartments, fill each compartment 2/3 with rice; add a few drops of essential oil if desired, cloves are good, although most people do not like scented packs. Fold open end in and sew.

This one is to lay on the eyes; good if you have a sinus headache or migraine.
Use masculine fabric for the guys.
These are also great for warming cold feet on a winter's night. :o)
I have sold dozens of these for $10 each.

I heard about a lady who has a whole business based on making these things. So I decided once to see what the hype was about! Since I couldn’t sew, I put some rice in a bag and tied it in a knot and put it in the microwave. It stayed warm FOREVER! GREAT idea!

PS.
I know you are a whiz at canning and preserving, and I wondered if you knew what to about preserving cabbages. I have quite a crop in the veggie patch and can only use so many…
Any ideas??
Thanks! Lian.xx

Kathy, my husband bought me one of these at a fundraiser auction. I decided to use it kind of like an old water bottle, heat it up, place it in the bed where my feet go, and then crawl in. Keeps my toes roasty toasty all night long!!!! Thanx for the tip on making them.

I would like to know where u sold them at the rice packs.
Kathy says:
I’ve sold them at craft shows and festivals, and even online through our site. $5 for small ones and $8 for large.

I’ve made these before for Christmas gifts and they are a big hit. I was recently at a local craft show and saw a gal selling rice packs that were small, as hand warmers. That is what I want to make for Christmas this year! They can also be filled with corn or flax seed, which may be more expensive. I’ve not heated mine that long before though (3 min’s on each side). I liked the idea of making them for an eye pack for a headache! Thanks for the great ideas!
