Amy from Joyfully Home ask:
This is awesome. I didn’t know that you could use a vitamix to grind wheat…would you be willing to elaborate on how to do it? The pictures are all wonderful…helps w/ a visual learner. Many blessings, Amy B.
In order to grind with the Vita Mix you have to have the DRY container. It is shaped a little differently and the blades are for grinding. I’ve used it for 10 years for grinding. Some people don’t think that it grinds finely enough, but I think it does. I do sift it to make sure there is nothing missed.
A funny story:
When we first started with grinding I bought a hand grinder, because I am so frugal ya know. ;o) WELL! After that first time grinding by hand I knew I needed to spend some money. :o)
A Vita Mix is expensive but it does SO MUCH! Talk about a time saver!!! It is worth every penny!

I, too, use the VitaMix for grinding grains.
The only problem I have with it is that it will only do a few “loads” of grain before it heats up. Once it gets too warm, the flour gets moist and sticks.
I do no more than 3 cups of grain at a time..and do up to 3 loads. After that, I wait until it is completely cooled down to do any more.
Other than this, I love my Vita Mix!!! It just makes grinding wheat for both pizza dough making and bread baking a little tough.

I love our Vita-Mix. We got ours when they were doing a demo at Sam’s Club. We got the dry container in the special PLUS it was like $100 cheaper than buying online. We just used our dry container yesterday to make powdered sugar. (We ate beignets for lunch). My advice for anyone who wants one: check and see when they do the demos at Sam’s Club. They have then about twice a year. Get them then. And get the latest model. It can make peanut butter withOUT adding any oil. We still have to add a smidgen of oil with peanuts if we want peanut butter. Sorry for the long comment. I just really, really like our Vita-Mix!

Jen, I didn’t know Sams did demos on these. How do we go about knowing when? These would be VERY nice items for my daughters’ hope chest.
Laurie,
Yes, you do have to watch that it does not get too hot. Usually I do about 2 cups of grain at a time and do 3-4 ‘loads’, then wait 10 minutes or so and do more; never letting it grind for more than 2 minutes at a time. Because I am usually grinding while I am doing other things the waiting for it to cool off is not a big issue for me. I only do 1-2 gallon size freezer ziplocs at a time.
