I looked out from the back deck and I see Dad had plenty of help to make the rabbit hutch.

Little man is getting pretty good with the cordless screwdriver!

And then Dad gave his Jitterbug her turn.

Of course Peachy-girl had to be ready to help so she strapped a tape measure to her pocket…

then this happened. 😉

But because she has a great dad he let her try to screw a board.

The Birdhouse Table

Jeff made this for me several years ago.

Because it stays on our front porch it needs to be re-painted every couple of years.

I usually change the colors of the bird houses every time I paint.

We’ve actually had birds nest in them.

This would be a great project for a teen boy.

Being able to sharpen your own scissors (and knives) is a valuable skill to have. Blade sharpening can be a profitable skill for boys, how many homemakers get frustrated because their kitchen knives are dull?

Seamstresses and quilters are usually willing to pay good money to have their scissors sharpened by someone who knows what they are doing.

Types of Scissors

If you have ever taken one of my sewing classes you’ve heard me stress the rule of NOT cutting paper (or anything else) with fabric scissors.

Fabric scissors should be saved (hidden away from children and men who want to cut EVERYTHING but fabric) in a safe place and only used for fabric. Have you ever tried to cut fabric or thread with a pair of scissors and they would not cut? It’s because they have been misused (abused!).

BOYS! As a girl, I just shake my head in confusion about how boys think.

Our son Josh loved to tear a part things and put them back together. I can’t tell you how many times Jeff and I would go to bed at night and tell Josh, “Please don’t electrocute yourself or burn the house down while we’re a sleep. ” He always had a project going in his room. We’ve got lots of stories and I’m glad he made it to adulthood with only a couple ER trips.
