Teaching Good Things - Practical Skills for Real Life

Why We MUST Celebrate!

No, December 25, was not the actual date of His birth. No, it is not a commandment nor a feast outlined in Scripture. But dose that mean we can not or should not remember and celebrate?

This earth is the Lord’s, WE are his people. We are commanded to take dominion for His glory.

If your reason to not celebrate Christmas is because it was a pagan holiday that’s fine, but I can promise you that most people have no idea about the history of ‘Christmas’, shoot they don’t even know the last 100 years of American history, and sadly they do not care!

What they do know is how you are living now. They do see how you embrace life and how you communicate the Gospel. They do watch to see if you have answers…and joy…and love.

Why should Christians celebrate Christmas? Because the incarnation was the greatest miracle of all time. The fact that the King of Glory would leave his throne to come as a humble baby, only to lay his life down on a cross for sinners, is worth remembering. It is worth celebrating.

We NEED to talk about it,

repent over it,

read about it,

sing about it

and

feast over it.

God’s people are the ones that should be full of LIFE, full of giving and full of celebrating!

I know people who have chosen to simplify their lives and they have removed everything from their home to ensure there is no clutter and little need for dusting and cleaning. The sad thing is they also removed the beauty, the feeling of homeyness.

Legalism removes the liberty and beauty from our lives.

There is so much evil, sadness, strife and turmoil all around us, we NEED to remember God’s goodness, and was there any greater love than the incarnation? Why not take the world’s cue and use this time to preach the Gospel with our lives? Use this time to show them not ‘what they need’, but WHO they need?

For our family Christmas time is not about Santa, because we will not lie to our children, but it is a time of family traditions and it is a time for evangelism. It’s pretty much how we live the rest of the year…just bigger and better! :)

This year I was able to sit in my livingroom and teach 3 children who had never heard the account of creation. They then learned about the crucifixion and resurrection. They are now learning the details of the incarnation which has brought a whole new meaning to their ‘Christmas’!

I agree with so much in this post. I just have to ask why those of us who choose to incorporate Santa into our winter festivities have to be considered liars concerning our children? My pastor did the same for his children. It really is more about carrying on family traditions than some hoax we play on our children. Why isn’t it okay to be respectful and tolerant of others with different beliefs? That doesn’t mean acceptance. If you choose not to have Santa visit because you would be lying to your children, then I am correct that you would call me and countless other parents liars. Isn’t that casting judgement?

I am sorry if that offended you that was not my intent. But to ask my child to trust me, believe me and then lie is just that, a lie. Are you lying to them? I judge by the same standard I hold myself to.

Why should Christians celebrate CHRISTmas? What other time of year is set aside to acknowledge HIS birth? If we don’t, who will?
