I truly am one of the most inconsistent people I know. I always have great ideas, but struggle with the follow-through to finish them…mainly because another great idea comes along. I have so many un-finished projects its embarrassing.
Sadly, I struggle with the same problem with my Bible reading. I’ll set goals, like reading the Bible in 90 days! I started off strong, and then…. well, maybe a 6 month plan wound be best. :/
I’d like to consider it as the vice-side of my creative (impulsive) personality. But in all honesty, it is mostly a lack of self-discipline.
Being married, having children, homeschooling and a home business has forced me to be more self-disciplined than what comes naturally, but it is still a struggle.
One thing that has taken me a long time to learn is, when I don’t take the time in the mornings to pray and read the Bible, I always feel like I am running behind all day. No matter how many things I mark off my to-do list the day feels ‘un-done’.
For me, and I know we are all different, but if I wait until the evening to read my Bible, my brain is just shot and I feel like I am just going through the motions.
When I do read and pray first thing, hopefully before any kiddos start asking me questions, everything just seems to be at peace, no matter what happens.
When Sharon White, of Legacy of the Home, asked if I would review her latest book, Early Morning Revival Challenge: 90 Day Bible Study, I quickly said yes, thinking this would help me in my morning consistency with reading, and it has!
This study is simple to follow and not at all overwhelming with ‘homework’. Doing the reading plan and combining it with a brief time of journaling I am usually finished in 20 minutes.

I especially love that she encourages journaling. I find that I put way too much on Facebook and not enough on paper in my own writing. I hope my grandchildren will look back on the summer of 2013 and read where I wrote my prayers out for their mom and dad, and for them. In my journaling I also choose a verse or two from my reading that struck a cord with me.
The book also includes a selection of inspiring quotes from 1600′s - 1800′s. These quotes are by Richard Baxter, Thomas Boston, John Wesley, Samuel Rutherford, John Bunyan, and more (one for each day of the challenge).
If you are trying to establish a good habit of morning Bible reading this is a good book for that. And if you fill in the book with dates and your notes it will be a treasure for your grandchildren one day.
One day I left my Bible open and journal out to come back and find where Sweet-Peachy-Girl, who is 4, thought she needed to journal also. This was a great reminder that more is caught than taught. :)
