You’re Never Too Old to Learn

March 10, 2010

When we started this website our goal was to teach young people (kids). We saw such a need to encourage practical skills for the next generation. As time went on we realized that the reason why so many kids did not know how to do the hands-on things was because their parents and grandparents did not know how to do them.  We almost have to go back to great- grandparents to learn how to quilt, crochet, garden, woodworking, etc…  So then the focus of our website/business became to *equip families*.  We LOVE the whole idea of parents learning right along with their children.

Jeff’s two aunts (from upstate New York)  have been here for the past week visiting. Oh my goodness have we LAUGHED!!! His Aunt Cathy wanted to learn how to make an icing rose to improve her cake decorating.  So we had a (silly) lesson and with a little practice she got it down pat!!!

She also wanted to learn how to do some quilting, so we made a rag quilt for her new great niece.  Rag quilts are the perfect beginner project, she was able to finish it in one day!

Aunt Cathy’s attitude was so inspiring!!!

The thing we encounter the most with adults is that they simply do not want to apply themselves to learning new things.  It is a pure JOY to be around people that want to continue to learn. Aunt Cathy is 56 years old. She wants to be able to make quilts and cakes (and anything else she can) for her family!

I understand that there are seasons of life and it is hard when you are raising a family, all the more reason to learn together!!! You’re never too old to learn something new!

    Kathy,

I bought your cake decorating video for my daughter last year, but I have enjoyed learning so much from it myself! Many of your online tutorials have helped me with my self-taught sewing skills. These are all things I never learned growing up. Thank you!
