What’s in a Bushel?

July 2, 2009

A little gardening FYI:

1 bushel of green beans =  4 pecks

OR

aprox 28 pounds

OR

aprox 4 Wal Mart bags full

OR

38 quarts canned!

It’s been a busy day! As soon as I started canning today the first jar broke…ugh… Then  my pressure cooker had steam coming out from the lid, so Olivia and I took off for town to buy a new seal. 8 hours later and 38 jars later…I’m ready to call it a day!

Don’t you just love seeing all those jars sitting on your counter? I actually freeze our beans, but when I see my jars of jelly, tomatoes, pears, and relish on the counter and hearing the little “ping” as they seal just makes my heart so happy!

Those beans look so yummy! I’m going to the feed store today to get some bean seeds to plant. My father-in-law got the ground tilled again for me and I’m going to plant them in my little tomato patch. I hope they turn out so I can have lots of yummy beans to can.
