Teaching Good Things, Practical Skills for Real Life

Equipping Families with Practical Skills for Real Life!

Week in Review- 1/26/13: Well Pleased?

For the past year it has been so exciting to share God’s word with the 3 younger kids for their first time and it’s even more exciting to watch as they connect the dots! The last couple days we have been reading about when John baptized Jesus and God’s voice said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” Matthew 3:17

This spurred a conversation about us being children of God, and the importance of God being please with us, not that we can earn our salvation, but there ARE blessings for the obedient.

All of this reminds me of how I spend my life, am I wasting my days doing foolish things or am I making the most of each day, working as unto the Lord?  When I stand before Him will he say, “Well done good and faithful servant?”

Each morning after our Bible lesson I pray with the kids. I always make a point to say, “Thank you for the work you have given Dad to do and may we be found faithful in our work at home.”  They need to understand, and I need to be reminded of, the work we all have been entrusted with, whether it receives pay or not, whether anyone notices or not.

My 7 year old mini-man working away at his math on a cold winter’s morning with a cup of hot green tea and one of Emma’s fresh whole wheat rolls! Now this is the good life! ;)

Olivia is our reader of the family, to say she loves to read would be an understatement! She has made it  her mission to make sure these kids grow up loving to read. She has formed a private book club, the four of them meet in her room on the floor at least once a day. They love it!!!

We try to get to the gym a few times a week to swim,

I call this the BTI (Brodock Training Institute) Swim Team.

Between school work, house work and a variety of colds and viruses in our home, we are working on wedding plans… 10 weeks to go…starting to feel the crunch!

Titus 2:3 says that we are to be "...teachers of good things...". We believe that part of these good things are practical skills that we all need in every day life to care for our family and neighbors. One of our primary responsibilities as parents is equip our children with the skills and tools to one day be productive, well rounded adults. Children need to be exposed to many different areas of work. Not only should they know how to work, but they should want to work. May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us- yes, establish the work of our hands. Psalm 90:17
