The Freedom to Teach the Way We Choose!

September 8, 2009

If you choose to use the Government’s system for education that is your choice. I know many wonderful teachers who have a heart for teaching, but it is still the government’s system. This post is *not* about who is a better parent, but it is about education.

One very important lesson I have learned is that he who defines the word, define the culture. Perhaps we need to clearly define the word Education.

I watched this interview this morning and sat in amazement.

I had to laugh when the psychologist wanted to address the drop out rate of public schoolers because they are "under educated". If they are dropping out of public school because of under education…well wouldn’t that re-enforce the point here? lol…

As far as calculus and the tougher subjects, those who understand how home education, or unschooling works, knows that there are plenty of opportunities to learn these things when they are NEEDED!

A couple weeks ago I had a lady approach me about homeschooling. She was a nurse and felt that she was not ‘able’ to teach her children. She wanted to, but she was concerned that she did not know enough. She also commented how she remembers very little from grammar and high school.

The fact is, we truly learn and retain what we need to, when we need to. Expose children to all that life has to offer, hone in on their special, God-given talents, and give them the skills to learn and they will be on their way to a well rounded education.

Most parents that educate their children at home spend the majority of their waking hours exploring what will be the best curriculum, co-op classes, etc.. to equip their children. They also take into consideration each child’s  learning style. It is not something that is taken lightly. The majority are involved in every aspect of their child’s education.

Who decided that a one size fits all classroom is what will best equip children for the real world? And who funded their ‘research’?
