The Bailey’s Barn Party
October 25, 2009
What a time we had Saturday night at the Bailey’s Barn Party/Dance along with about 300 other people, tons of food, laughter, music and dancing!
If you have never been to a barn party/dance with a BUNCH of other families you are missing it! I love the whole family thing…what a GREAT TIME! Thank you Baileys for another WONDERFUL night of memories.
I wish I had the camera on when there were about 100 people on the floor doing the Electric Slide.
My two real-life-bestest-friends and blogging buddies (Robin and Kelly) were there too! I know how blessed we are to live in an area that has so many like-minded families; families that love God and love family life.
Most of the families in this video clip are home educated. And to think that so many people really believe homeschoolers are not socialized! lol…
The next dance will be hosted by our family next month with a 1860′s theme. And there is talk of a Swing dance in the future???
God’s people should be a happy people. We should celebrate life with laughter, feasting, singing and dancing; and to remember His goodness.
Yes, I know there are two typos in the subtitles…it wouldn’t be a video made by me without at least one goof up!

I’ve heard of barn dances, especially among Christian homeschoolers. In the churches I grew up in, dancing was sternly preached against. I’m just wondering about the temptations of unmarried, unrelated couples dancing together and holding hands. Is that a problem at these gatherings?
Kathy–what a great job you did with the video!!! I had just marveled with several different people about the blessing of having so many wonderful, like-minded friends around. We take it for granted.
Marcia,
We only attend 2-3 dances a year and I understand your concern….completely! I know some families that have to ‘sit out’ of events like this for a while because they have a child struggling with heart issues. One year we chose not to attend a dance because we had a child (teen) struggling with heart issues and the style of dress was not one we wanted to encourage, so we chose not to go. A lot of it is where you are as a family.
What is so good about this is that it is a family event so kids are less likely to do things that might be done at a more sensual type dance that is only teenagers.
Square dancing is very fast and IF you actually have to touch another man’s (or woman’s) hand it is for about one second! Because this is a family thing and we are all Christians (and as I said earlier like-minded)and your spouse is there too, adults only dance with their spouse. In square dancing you do not put your arm around anyone but your *partner*.
)
Is there temptation? I’m sure there is for some, but so can be going to Wal Mart and seeing the same guy in the freezer section each week. ;o)
These are fun dances. The clothing required covers the body well. There are no moves that are vulgar or sensual. And to be honest, the dancers are focusing so much on HOW TO DO the steps you don’t notice anything else. lol…
Your concerns are real and rightfully so. I think most of us have the same concerns and keep an eye out for situations that need to be nipped. But we have to teach our children self control and still have a good time! Laughter and fellowship are so important. I spent so many years focusing on the “thou shall nots” that I had lost a lot of my JOY!
Great comment!
Kathy, that looks so fun!! How wonderful that you have that many like-minded people around you to have such an event!
Kathy,
What fun! I looked at the Southern Heritage dance and would just about give my right arm to be able to come. Unfortunately we live in NC, but might consider a move to AL? My husband has been wanting to move further south for a long time!
Thanks, Kathy, for answering. I think you have a very balanced view of it all. You can imagine how shocked I was the first time I heard of a church-sponsored barn dance.
Keep teaching good things!
We loved the movie! It was so much fun to watch.

How simply wonderful!! Where was this barn dance at?
Thanks Kathy for the video. We moved from Alabama a little over a year ago and I MISS IT SO MUCH! Watching this makes me sad (in good kind of way!) We have so many memories with so many people that were there! Who knows maybe one day we will come back
