Teaching Good Things, Practical Skills for Real Life

Equipping Families with Practical Skills for Real Life!

Taking a Break with My Girls

As most of you know our daughter Olivia  is a governess for a 13 year girl who lost her mother last year to cancer. They live on a beautiful cattle farm (but she comes home every weekend :) ).  The girl she cares for and her dad were gone to the beach for a few days, so Emma and I went  to stay with her so she wouldn’t have to be in the big house all alone at night! ;o)

When we arrived Olivia had a beautiful supper of sushi ready for us, IT WAS SO GOOD!

One of Olivia’s passions is cooking,  not only how the food taste, but how it is presented.

A part of me kept thinking, I really NEEDED to be at home, I have SO MUCH TO DO! I really NEEDED to be editing a video or writing something, or taking a meal to someone, or painting the house, or ……….

This is the CONSTANT battle within me.

The next morning I got up before the sleepyheads and propped myself up with my laptop and all of the remotes to the TV. We don’t get any TV stations at our house, so I was having FUN jumping from Fox News ,to HGTV and TLC!  Then Olivia insisted on making us breakfast, which totally blew my diet; but it was GOOD!

After breakfast Olivia took us on a tour of the property. It was beautiful! I road the Kabota with her, and Emma took the 4-wheeler. She showed me the swimming hole, which looked like a little slice of heaven on earth!

Then we went to the railroad tracks…that was really cool!

There were shooting houses along the way for hunting.

When we got back to the house the girls made lunch and surprised their dad who was working about 20 minutes away!    These guys not use to a nice hot meal for lunch, not to mention real dishes! ;o)

Of course we had to hit the thrift store while we were in the neighborhood!

We came home to go back to the tracks and take pictures at sunset. FUN!

Sunset, then the beautiful full moon on the farm was just PERFECT!

Olivia and Emma made a wonderful meal of fish and veggies for supper! And yes, we romantics had to eat it out on the deck with candle light and the sound track from Pride and Prejudice playing in the background!! YUM! I’m SO THANKFUL that my girls appreciate beauty, that they make even simple things as enjoyable as possible!

Friday morning we stopped by to see our old friends and the beautiful quilts at the Blount County Quilter’s Guild Quilt Show, at gorgeous Palisades Park. We walked away with LOTS of inspiration!

There will always be work that NEEDS to be done as should be, but the days with just my girls are becoming fewer; one is almost 20 and the other 16. Before I know it they will be married and have work of their own that NEEDS to be done. They will be helping their husband and caring for their own children and home.  I’ll be glad I took these couple of days to do a get away with just them!

Titus 2:3 says that we are to be "...teachers of good things...". We believe that part of these good things are practical skills that we all need in every day life to care for our family and neighbors. One of our primary responsibilities as parents is equip our children with the skills and tools to one day be productive, well rounded adults. Children need to be exposed to many different areas of work. Not only should they know how to work, but they should want to work. May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us- yes, establish the work of our hands. Psalm 90:17

You are such a wise woman, my friend. I agree. You chose the best by being with your treasures from the LORD.

I am getting along ok…..just a bit slow and very tired.

    Much love to you!
