Setting Up Her Home

Emma and Josh just signed the lease for the house across the road from us.

This house has such special memories. The elderly couple that were in it until a year ago have been there about 30 years. Annie Jo was like a grandmother to our children. The kids would always be running up there for one thing or another, either to help her “fix her remote” or to help her carry in her groceries and then there would be plenty of time she’d holler for someone to come get a BIG plate of fried green tomatoes, Jeff’s favorite. We were special neighbors, we took care of each other.  Annie Jo passed away last year, she would be THRILLED to know Emma was living in her house. :)

Last night Emma asked me to stay and help her put away the gifts from the shower and other things they have gotten. I was so  humbled that she WANTED me to help her.  Our relationship has had MANY ups and downs, like most people who raise strong willed children. :)  So for her to ask me to stay just melted my heart. I was careful to ask her where she wanted things rather than telling her what was best. I gave her a few tips about buying curtains, being careful to let her take the lead. GOSH, growing up and letting go is hard, but it can also be sweet if we remember they are their own person, and opinions must be welcomed before they are given. Last night was a night I hope I never forget as my baby girl is setting up her own home.  23 days until this is HER HOME!!!

Titus 2:3 says that we are to be "...teachers of good things...". We believe that part of these good things are practical skills that we all need in every day life to care for our family and neighbors. One of our primary responsibilities as parents is equip our children with the skills and tools to one day be productive, well rounded adults. Children need to be exposed to many different areas of work. Not only should they know how to work, but they should want to work. May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us- yes, establish the work of our hands. Psalm 90:17
