Ruth,

We watched Frontier House and I agree! Actually the whole thing made me so mad. I thought the women had horrible attitudes which effected their whole family, in turn effected the whole community! The kids were spoiled, but then again they knew nothing of sacrifice and hard work. Thus, why we are in the state of emergency we are in as a country!!!

I best not get on THAT soapbox today or I won't get anything done! ;o)

I haven't seen this video, but in watching the PBS series "Frontier House" and some of the other PBS historic series, I noticed how important children were to the well-being and survival of the families.

In "Frontier House" two of the wealthy, rather spoiled teens were interviewed after the series concluded. They were asked if they were glad that they no longer had to milk cows and do so much hard work. They hesitated and then said that returning to modern times was boring and they felt unneeded, but in the frontier experience, they knew that what they did made a difference for the family. And they liked that!

I think so many families are more concerned with keeping their children and teens entertained, than in making sure they are a needed and vital part of the family.

We love this video! I know what you mean about the children using their imaginations. We don't have the video games and tv (we sometimes watch a good dvd or movie, but usually things like A Journey Home). I'm constantly saying "Get the sticks out of the house!" My kids have their toys, but they love to go out and get sticks to play with. Currently they are building a full-size teepee in the back yard! Hmmm...I'll have to blog about that. :)
