Responsibility- I’ll just do it myself!
January 5, 2009
How many of us have said. "Sometimes it is just easier to do it myself"?
Parenting (child training, shepherding) is hard work. You are on duty 24/7. It is usually easier and faster just to handle a task yourself. But then you need to remember that YOUR responsibility is to train good character into your children. Tough I know!!! It takes consistency, and I think it is harder on us parents than the children.
You are not doing your children or yourself any favors when you are letting them shirk their responsibility. You will not be doing their future employer or spouse any favor either. If you feel too busy to teach your children responsibility, to follow through on the details, then maybe your schedule needs adjusting. This is a reminder to myself also.

An example in our home:
Whoever has the kitchen zone has to wash, dry and put away the dishes within a reasonable amount of time after supper. Lately I've been letting this slip. Jeff gave the kitchen zone person a warning, which they did not heed. So the next morning he had the 'offender' up BRIGHT AND EARLY to do her zone (anyone that knows my husband, knows he is an EARLY BIRD!). It is amazing how 'responsible' she is now. ;o) Even as our children become older and more independent we have to follow through, making sure everyone is doing their duty!
