Pinking Shears
January 10, 2011
Pinking shears are important to anyone who is serious about sewing. They are used for cutting/finishing the edge of fabric that has been sewn. Use pinking shears to trim approximately 1/8 inch off fabric edge. The shears will give the fabric a zigzag look that is fray-resistant. This is especially helpful if you do not have a a surger, which keeps your seams from fraying (the shredded look).

Haleigh told my mom yesterday that she wanted a pair of scissors, but not the “crinkly ones”. Yep, pinking shears!
Or for cutting doll hair … just kidding! That is what I used to do with them as a child. Boy did I have some UGLY barbie dolls!
What is a reasonable price to pay for pinking shears?
About $20-$30 if you want a good pair. Check Amazon, or watch for sales with local stores.
