Our Christmas 2010
December 26, 2010
We live away from most of our family, so when we actually get together it is a big deal! My brother and his family came from Miami to visit for a few days, we haven’t seen them in about 3 years. Our girls are about the same age as his boys. My mother and Josh (son) were also here.
Christmas Eve day we nibbled on finger foods all day.
Along with some of the sweeter things in life.
My brother…well… he is full of energy and has a huge personality! He and Emma are just drawn to each other, one provokes the other…so the rest of us sit back …and watch..and listen… and laugh.
Christmas Eve night Olivia made us a wonderful meal consisting of pork medallions towered on creamed potatoes, with caramelized onions and peppers.
After supper we all gathered to open gifts. We presented Emma with her hope chest that Jeff built for her. It was nice to share this special moment with family.
She will now start filling it with items for her own home one day (right now she has it filled with her new gifts). She will take this to her home and if Lord willing, she will pass it down to a daughter or granddaughter one day. We’re still looking for some nice, rustic hardware for it.
Jeff poured hours into this chest. He loves to give good gifts, especially to those he loves. He is so tenderhearted and loves deeply! Every girl should have a dad so kind, tender and loyal!
We woke up Christmas morning to SNOW!
This is the first time in over 100 years Alabama has had a white Christmas!!!
Christmas morning Olivia made her incredible buttermilk biscuits with sausage and gravy.
Emma made stuffed shells for dinner.
We ended the day and the visit with the cousins and a few friends out in the dark with a snowball fight war and a good game of dominoes!
My heart overflows with gratitude!

New commentor here-I just wondered if Olivia would be willing to share her biscuits and gravy recipe? It looks divine!
I love the idea of a hope chest. In fact, I have tears in my eyes seeing the tears in your husband’s eyes. My oldest and only daughter is 8 so maybe it is something we will look into in the coming years.
And that last picture of you and your husband is fabulous! What a great memory!
Thank you for commenting, Lisa!
We are going to record a biscuit and gravy tutorial tomorrow, so stay tuned, should be up next week.
Btw, plant seeds of how special a hope chest is in your daughter’s heart now, it will build anticipation and hopes of a future home!
Thank you! Can’t wait!
