Teaching Good Things, Practical Skills for Real Life

Equipping Families with Practical Skills for Real Life!

Of Homeschool Conventions, Worldview Conferences and Balls…

I feel like I have finally caught up from our crazy weekend.

I was thrilled to meet so many people at CHEF (Christian Home Education Fellowship), our state convention. Emma worked our Teaching Good Things booth by herself  on Saturday, what a great blessing it is to have (almost) adult children.

Friday – Sunday our church hosted an American Vision Worldview Conference. People came from all over to attend this conference, what a blessing, not only because of the great speakers and their message, but also meeting so many new like-minded families.

You can see pictures at Robin’s blog.

Here is a post that was written by a young woman who traveled all the way from Canada with her husband to attend the conference; you can read her opinion of the conference and our church HERE!

Our family took care of the sack lunches and refreshments on Saturday, did I say how wonderful it is to have adult children who are capable  of doing most anything you need them to? Oh, and having a husband who has the mind set of the Energizer Bunny, is a BIG plus too!

Saturday night after the conference we hosted a Costume Ball, with a huge turn out!!! Costumes were not required, but it sure did make it fun! This was our third ball to host…

most of us are still learning the dances and the Ferrill Family so PATIENTLY teaches the steps before each dance,

which is NO EASY TASK!

Wonder if he is laughing AT us or with us??? :)

It is hard to put into words the excitement of seeing families that come together to enjoy life this way. The kids, even the teens,  are not ashamed to ‘hang out’ with their parents.

How sweet it is to see fathers dance with their daughters, as they are usually learning to dance at the same time.

How precious it is that brothers and sisters are not ashamed to dance together as they too learn and laugh!

One lady at the ball commented, ‘this is how it use to be’; families getting together, whether it be in a barn, in a yard or in a hall to get to know each other, to laugh, to dance and to HAVE FUN’!

For those of us that desire courtship for our children, this is also a great way for families to interact with each other (No, Olivia, we are not ‘husband shopping’…but you never know who may show up! :)   ). HOPEFULLY, by the time our kids start getting married we will know some ‘dance moves’ and really be able to enjoy the wedding reception!!!

The Electric Slide - Doubt they had this dance back in the olden’ days!

(Just for those of you that really believe that homeschooled kids are sheltered and lack ‘socialization‘,

99 percent of the people in attendance of  this ball homeschool.)

Christians should be showing the world how to *PARTY*!!! That is, party without sin. Being a Christian is not  so much about what you can NOT do, but what you can! So often we focus on the “shall not’s”   that we steal the joy out of our walk! There is a dance that  is sensual and provocative that Christians should avoid, but there is also a dance that reflects respect and rejoicing.

Here is a little video clip, THANKS Jessica!

We are so thankful for where we live and for the community of Believers that God has surrounded us with.

We love our church and we love the homeschool community!

God is good, all the time!

Titus 2:3 says that we are to be "...teachers of good things...". We believe that part of these good things are practical skills that we all need in every day life to care for our family and neighbors. One of our primary responsibilities as parents is equip our children with the skills and tools to one day be productive, well rounded adults. Children need to be exposed to many different areas of work. Not only should they know how to work, but they should want to work. May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us- yes, establish the work of our hands. Psalm 90:17
