I love being able to teach using parables and object lessons. During one of Robin‘s lectures at the Living a Legacy Conference she refereed to the Circle of Blessing, from Ted Tripp’s book, Shepherding a Child’s Heart.
You see, when you stay in the circle the Lord blesses you; when you disobey, you step out of that circle of blessing. There is safety, protection and blessing in the circle. The sooner a child can learn this the better, and unfortunately, we adults need to be reminded of this also!
The circle is a great object lesson for kids, to help them see the importance in obeying what God says.
I drew out this circle and named a few things that will keep us in the circle of blessing;
then a few things that will cause us to step out of it.
I placed a picture of each of our faces on a magnet.
My sweet little Peach loves to play with it and I love to hear her talking about the importance of staying in the circle.
“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.”
John 14:15
“See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse: the blessing,
if you obey the commandments of the LORD your God,
which I command you today, and the curse,
if you do not obey the commandments of the LORD your God…”
Deuteronomy 11:26-27

Here are some helpful scenarios for teaching the Circle of Blessing.

Love this! Seeing it drawn out like this makes it much easier to understand.

This is so great! We talked about the “Circle of Blessing” at the beginning of this school year, and it has given us a common language to use at home, “Is that something that would keep you within the Circle of Blessing?” or “What might you say in response to your sister that would help you stay in the circle a little better?”
Thank you for the lesson!
