New Years Greetings from our family to yours!

December 31, 2008

Hope and change have been the theme of this past year, which is common for an election year. Unfortunately, our hopes fade quickly as we realize there really isn't much "change" happening regardless of which party is in office.

Our disappointments should cause us to realize some things. First, Christ alone is our only hope. It is He that gives us strength each day and the ability to press on. He cares for us and has promised not to leave us, they key is that we abide in Him!

Second, the only real changes that should be made are the changes in us. We as individuals, as families and as a nation, must become more responsible. We need to know how to take care of ourselves, our family members and our neighbors. Being able to do these things comes from an individual's choice, not by force.

When we are serious about taking responsibility for ourselves we will not expect (demand) a hand out or bail out from anyone. We will not look to the government or anyone else to take care of us. We need to know how to work and have the integrity TO work. If we fall on hard time, seriously hard times, then it is time to tighten the belt and apply ourselves harder and ask God for our daily bread.

We Americans (our family included) are use to luxury. How many of us have cell phones, TVs, satellite, computers, several pairs of shoes and so many clothes they are laying on the floor or stuffed in a bulging closet? Aren't many Americans (our family included) overweight?

There will be some serious economic changes in our country soon. We do not need to be crying that the sky is falling. Yes, it will be tough, yes, we may loose some luxuries, and we may even loose some weight, ;o). Just remember God said that He would not go without food and clothing if we seek Him. We may go without an abundance, but our basic needs will be met, if we live as He says to live, and God does not lie.

Take some basic steps:

Learn as many skills you can to become more self-sufficient.  You can learn almost anything from being on line or the library. Find people around you that can teach you skills that can be marketed later. You are never too young or too old to learn new skills!

Limit the entertainment and start the education! We can stop spending hours a day being entertained by TV, games, music, phones, and just hanging out and start thinking of ways to use your our wisely. Can you help someone in need? Can you do anything to get your home and pantry ready for hard times? Think of new ways to make and save money. There are thousands of ideas on line, some may work for you. There is nothing wrong with relaxing and being entertained, but there is an abundance of it in today’s culture.

Eliminate debt. Yes, I know, much easier said than done. Debt is bondage. What luxuries can your go without this year to eliminate debt? If the economy does get real desperate you'll have some freedom if you are not loaded with debt.

Become closer to family. The family is one of the primary building blocks in society. Hard times may drive families back together, forcing them to truly care for each other, physically and emotionally. THIS IS A GOOD THING! Less pride and more love. Taking care of each other and loving each other in-spite of our differences is all part of God’s plan.

Look for opportunities!!! Granted the Depression was hard, but the integrity of that generation was amazing!  The inventions and prosperity that came after the depression were like that of no other time. There will be a lot of new opportunities in the years to come, they will be different so we need to have our eyes wide open. Think outside the box. Stop listening to ‘experts’, they only give you limitations. When there is a will there is a way!

Be full of HOPE! Not in a candidate or political promises. Do not complain how bad the economy is, negative attitudes just feed on themselves, then soon everyone around you is depressed and worried. Negative attitudes KILL hope! Ask God for mercy and watch to see how He will answer your prayers, how He will provide for you and your family! Hope in Christ, live obediently, be kind to people.

Be strong and courageous,

do not be afraid or discouraged;

for the Lord your God is with your wherever you go.

Joshua 1:9
