Lessons in Canning

July 24, 2009

Today we held our canning class at the home of Sandra and Ana Smith. It was a good day with sweet fellowship and encouragement as these girls learned how to can blueberry jam, tomatoes and vegetables soup.

One of the young girls made the comment, "Or you could just buy them (vegetables) from the store."

lol…Well true, but then I explained to her that you can save money growing your own vegetables, and you know that there are not extra preservatives in the food. Then we had a good history lesson about the depression. :o ) Although we can afford to go buy food, we still need the skills to grow and preserve, we never know what rough times may come.

Then there is the whole point of being busy at home (Titus 2:5). If you are at home doing things like canning, sewing, etc… it keeps you from doing things that pull your heart away from home. Why not use your time to make your food nutritious for your family and your home a pleasant place to be?
