Teaching Good Things, Practical Skills for Real Life

Equipping Families with Practical Skills for Real Life!

Learning to Do Man Work!

I met Allison a few weeks ago at a party we catered.  She and her family were there not only as guests, but she was also the photographer for the party. She has a really neat family which is partly birthed through adoption. You can read more about her family at Five Lewis Crew.  When I went to look at her blog for the first time this morning, I thought, ‘oh, yeah, this family knows what raising children is all about!” I love her post, Learning to Do Man Work. YES! This is it, the real stuff of raising a man up!

You see that Dad is working along side of his future man.

Look at the joy on his face! Forget all that self-esteem garbage, teach a young man to work, to be skilled and you’ll equip him with self-CONFIDENCE to do what a man needs to do!

The sooner you instill this in your children or grandchildren the better off they will be, the better off you will be and the better of the economy will be!

But Dad (and Mom),

he needs you to teach him…

JOYFULLY!

Titus 2:3 says that we are to be "...teachers of good things...". We believe that part of these good things are practical skills that we all need in every day life to care for our family and neighbors. One of our primary responsibilities as parents is equip our children with the skills and tools to one day be productive, well rounded adults. Children need to be exposed to many different areas of work. Not only should they know how to work, but they should want to work. May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us- yes, establish the work of our hands. Psalm 90:17

Excellent article! Thank you so much for sharing this. We have been working on this in our family as well…training our boys to do the work of helping in our family and to do it with a good attitude as to the Lord…Col. 3:23-25. I love this example!!!
