Independence and Freedom
July 1, 2009
More than ever do we need to be teaching our children the history of our country. We have got to know real history and defend our God given rights! Prosperity has given us a couple of generations of people who for the most part, just don’t care, and to be honest many are flat out lazy.

With freedom comes responsibility!
It’s kind of like as your children grow older you expect them to be more responsible. They should be less and less dependent on you and care for themselves. They buy their own clothes and pay for events they want to attend. They learn to make good choices and suffer the consequences of making bad ones. They move into buying their own car and paying for insurance, eventually they will be making payments on their home and they will need you very little. They will be independent and responsible!
Americans fought to provide and protect for themselves and to be free to govern themselves and choose what was best for their families.
It is so sad to see how quickly Americans are becoming more dependent on the government and making fewer and fewer decisions based on their own responsibilities!
This past weekend we had a VERY scary incident at our house. Our 21 year old son was on a job with a friend of ours that took him about 1300 miles away. When our phone rang at 3 AM Sunday morning I just knew it was something very bad. You can read the story here, Josh was the "other person" with Aaron. Praise God when I heard his voice I knew he was alive.
We laugh at this story now, but for a few hours it was very scary! When you leave the soil of the United States you leave behind your rights, your freedoms. What a reminder as we prepare to celebrate our nation’s fight to win INDEPENDENCE, that there is still a battle.
There is a battle within the textbooks to teach the truth; realize many current history books do not teach based on facts, you’d realize this if you read the actual journals and documents of the times.
There is a battle to know and honor our Constitution! Most Americans have never read the Constitution, much less be willing to defend it! (Witherspoon School of Law and Public Policy)
There is a battle to preserve our rights. There are so many God given rights that are being taken away or limited just because of a people that trust the Government to take care of us.
A very important principle to remember:
When you accept a handout from the Government you are handing over a right, your freedom… EVERY TIME!
Other than knowing what your Bible says, knowing and exercising your rights as an American is the most important thing to teach your children, in word and in deed!!!
"If men will not be govern themselves,
they will be governed by tyrants!"
William Penn
Gun Control – Being Able to Use Both Hands
No freeman shall ever be debarred the use of arms.
—Thomas Jefferson: Draft Virginia Constitution, 1776.
Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed; as they are in almost every kingdom in Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any band of regular troops that can be, on any pretense, raised in the United States. A military force, at the command of Congress, can execute no laws, but such as the people perceive to be just and constitutional; for they will possess the power, and jealousy will instantly inspire the inclination, to resist the execution of a law which appears to them unjust and oppressive.
—Noah Webster, An Examination of the Leading Principles of the Federal Constitution (Philadelphia 1787).

Oh, Kathy! My family read about it over at Kelly’s blog! I am so sorry!
I wish you could have seen my 15 year old, red-haired son’s face turn redder by the minute as he read the account at Generation Cedar. Ben turned quickly and said with VERY strong emotion, “That is just plain wrong! In the 1700′s, that would be enough to ignite a battle between the 2 countries!” (Ben recently earned some money repairing a small engine and used some of it to join Gun Owners of America.)
The LORD was gracious in protecting them both!
((hug)) from VA including one from Anna, too!
I’m still shaking my head!
