Higher Education in America

April 11, 2011

This (Higher Education in America)  is a state-created monopoly at work — the largest, most influential monopoly on earth.

It is better to get on-the-job training in a mid-sized business noted for its entrepreneurship than it is to earn an MBA. It is better to come under the influence of a manager who has prospered in a growing company than a professor of business administration.

  1. The cited article was very good; thanks for making it available. A local radio talk show host was just this morning speaking on this topic. I’m going to direct him to this article. My dad quit school in 8th grade; this was commonplace for young men (and women) in that era of the Depression years. They found a job to help support the familiy. He went on to become a successful rancher, with the help of my mother. One of my brothers dropped out of school (I say he was “finished” with school!) at 16 and now also farms/ranches and owns a water well service. Then I have a relative who is going for a master’s degree, but her eye is on a government job. Go figure!

I think traditional school–at all levels–does little to nothing to help kids develop an entrepreneurial spirit. Thanks again for pointing us to good reading material!
