Thanksgiving and Seperation

November 24, 2011

Today we’ll spend a pretty quiet day (Lord willing) at home with just our immediate family. This is what happens when there are miles between you and your family.

Sometimes the miles are an actual physical distance and then there are times when the miles are measured in conviction, faith and worldview.  And even though you may open your home and ask for any who will come to enjoy breaking bread together, they will refuse. They refuse because your idea, your conviction, your way of life is not inviting to them; and if you are living a righteous life (NOT self-righteous), simply sitting a table with you brings conviction. You do not share the same idea of fun and good fellowship.

Isn’t it the same when Christ calls us? He changes us. Our ways must become His ways or we do not have true fellowship, we can not enjoy each other.  It does not matter if the door is open and the table is set, if we do not desire fellowship with Him we will go where we feel free, even though it leads to bondage. His righteousness brings conviction, and if we do not humble ourselves we have no desire to sit at His table.

No matter what separates us from our family it can be tough.  What is most important is to focus on what we do have.

Just like the Pilgrims there are times when separation to a degree is good and right. For those of us that are basically first generation Believers we must realize that our sacrifices are petty small compared to those that went before us.

Let us be diligent to build righteous (NOT self-righteous) traditions  for our families filled with love, service and grace,  while we still find ways to love our neighbors.

Let us be fruitful in numbers (people) and in deeds.

Above all may we never take for granted the great mercy and responsibility that has been given to us. And of course, let us REJOICE in the Table the Lord has set for us!!!
