I have hit 8 months pregnant, and admitted to my husband that although I am eating all the veges we are getting, I could care less about the preserving of it. I have a feeling we will just be buying diced tomatoes, etc. this year. He’s fine with that. Said we could just give away any excess I don’t want to deal with. What a man.
Next year is another year. And hopefully I’ll be able to bend down to take care of the garden then!

Hello Mrs. Brodock!
My garden is doing well, and we have been getting some tomatoes, squash, cabbage, peas, beans and carrots. We have lots of cucumbers, and Daddy has been loving them!! One whole bin in our refrigerator is full of them with others tucked all over in the refrigerator. I wish that you were nearby so I could share them with you!

I’m feeling a bit like petersonclan in the above post! With my due date only 4 weeks away and the small size of the tomatoes that we got this week, I’m thinking how I will ever get enough to can without them going bad before I get enough harvested! The beans didn’t come up (well, maybe a few have) so I’m chalking this year up to experience and will plan through the winter and hopefully do better next summer when we are maybe? less busy and I’m not pregnant!
I’m so thankful that you had this challenge, Kathy. I would never have stuck with it or even started one this year had it not been for your blog. I’ve learned a lot and enjoyed it immensely.

We have a little Southern California garden – basically what you would call teeny tiny, but we have done the best with what we have planting miniature and dwarf fruit trees and claiming the back flower beds for gardening. We are harvesting beans right now but just enough for a meal every 3-4 days. Our tomatoes are coming along slowly.
The big news is that tomorrow my first ever batch of Seven-Day pickles will be ready to can. It is only a half batch, but I grew the cucumbers myself, so I am pretty pleased.

Ladies, I can so relate to the discouragement, although I am not pregnant (wish I was!), we just have to do the best we can and move on to the next thing.
Mrs. Pear, could you tell us about your 7 day pickles?

Our tomatoes are all but dead. We do a lot of container gardening and we’re thinking the new soil we got this year may have been the problem. We have 6 plants left, but they’re mostly just stalk, although they are still somehow trying to produce.
Our pumpkins are taking over the backyard! They were planted in the ground. They’re making less and less of the yard that can be mowed!

Everything is about gone now. I am starting over for fall now. This has been fun to watch everyone’s garden and learn so many new things. Will we continue through the fall?
