Kathy…..I have always loved THE WALTONS! I see the same things you do, but I, too, just love the focus on family even through the icky times. Growing up in a non-Christian family, the Waltons always gave me hope. I am so glad the LORD got a hold of my heart and explained the REAL hope found in HIM!
A great addition to your collection would be the very first movie that gave the show it’s start. It is called “The Homecoming.” We watch it every Christmas. My Jeff still gets a little leaky at parts. I can’t tell you how many times during the year a movie line will be said in conversation!
BTW….a teaser for you….if you come visit, I will take you to where the writer of the original book that got The Waltons series going lived. The town is very close to me. You can see the REAL house where they grew up and the Mr Godsey’s store. (Did I spell that right?) They also have a museum there……Sometimes, they have a reunion and all of the Walton cast comes to visit.
Kathy…..you gotta come to the Blue Ridge Mountains!

Hi – we will be watching the Waltons, I am sure! Right now we are watching the Little House on the Prairie episodes, as we are studying the 1800s. Usually the grown-ups know better in the episodes, but even when they are ‘wrong’ they are shown respect.
Obviously in the interest of time they cannot show how truly time & labor intensive the daily household chores could be, but they show enough to get my children asking questions, and that is what it is all about, isn’t it!
For example, in one Christmas episode, Laura is shown asking for the extra onion peels. Next thing you see is that she has knitted a scarf for her father. My girls immediately asked about what happened in-between. Now, I wasn’t prepared to actually do all that process from wool – through yarn – through dye-ing & so forth right now, but we sure did do some internet searching and found terrific YouTube videos of the process!
It does inspire us to get the bread going in the oven, though, and THAT we can do most any day!
