Do You Have Weeds Yet?

May 15, 2009

We have had rain just about everyday the past week which has caused the gardens to really thrive! The only thing is with all that thriving comes WEEDS! Hopefully today we will get out there and pull the unwanted roots that will choke out what is intended to be used for US to thrive!

The last couple years Alabama has been in a server drought. Nothing makes you appreciate rain like a drought. As I watch our garden and yard flourish because of the blessing of rain, it makes me think of how we as humans respond the same way as the plants do.

When we are in a drought spiritually, physically, financially it causes us to be hard; we feel like we are drying up. Many of us will beg God for rain for our situation. Asking him to rid us of the hardship. For some of us after we try to water our situation with out own means we will realize that there is nothing like a steady rain from God. Something that can ONLY come from Him!

As I look at our gardens, including the weeds, I reflect on our times of prosperity. Times when we have an abundance of rain in our lives that causes us not to ask God for our daily needs.

Times of abundance usually brings complacency and we loose sight of our utter dependence on God. We get so busy enjoying the blessings that we allow weeds to creep into our lives and before we know it the weeds are choking the righteous living out of us.

So think about it. Think about your times of prosperity, times of abundant blessings, do you spend the time to daily weed out your garden to make sure what God intended for you to be nourished by is not choked out by the weeds?

I think an occasional drought is good for us. It keeps us humble and dependent on the Giver of Life!

I have further thought on this I’ll write later…right now I’ve got to get busy! ;o)

Olivia harvested a bunch of herbs this morning to be dried.

Great post! The hard times remind us much more effectively of our dependence on God. When times are good, we seem to forget we need Him.

Your pictures are great, by the way.

I’m enjoying seeing everyone’s garden grow!! I really enjoyed this posting, Kathy. =) I think all the time about little metaphors for life that I pick up while gardening. =)

Oh, I’ve been so anxious to join you in the garden challenge!
I’ve just been too busy to jump in online – but our garden is going!

Also, I have photos of our garden’s progress – from scratch (lifting sod, tilling, mulching/composting) to planting seeds and transplanting sprouts – but I don’t have a public blog on which to display them yet. How do I participate w/out a blog to link to?

I’ve been keeping the weeds pulled before they know what happened to them. Thanks for hosting this series.
