Creativity- Creative Education
April 13, 2009
If you want your children to be intellectually challenged then you need to put them in situations that will challenge them. Don’t settle with the status quo. Don’t allow a lot of idle time.
The same goes with encouraging creativity. If your child loves electronics get him/her together with others that can encourage them and share ideas. When my son was younger there were a couple other boys that also loved anything that involved electronics, tearing things apart and rebuilding. If you have one who loves to sew, search out others that can teach them more than they know, or buy videos.
) Does your son have a bend towards mechanics? Find a man of good character that would be willing to let your son come hand him tools while he works. It may mean giving up ‘play time’ or some structured study time, but you’ll be encouraging him to build on his abilities.
Take what their interest is and push them to expand on it. Our youngest is a cat fanatic. She is about to start using her love for cats in a very creative way. As soon as she gets her new project finished I’ll tell you all about it, but right now it is top secret! It’s REALLY COOL! ;o)
Next week my daughters and I will be attending a calligraphy class taught by a very, sweet young lady (the kind of young lady you want your girls around). I already know calligraphy but in this one day class I am hoping that they will be inspired and encouraged! We will be there for the fellowship just as much as we are there for the lesson.
Soon we will also be attending an upholstery lesson given by a fellow homeschool mom. This is a skill that will help us become more creative and efficient homemakers. This is the whole purpose of our Domestic Classes.
There are other people out there that are willing to share their knowledge. Talk it up and ask God to point you in a direction.
Keep them busy and challenged!
You as the parent have got to be creative in how you educate your children; remember education does not happen just between the assigned book covers. Evaluate the activities you are involved in, do they foster learning skills for adulthood? This is just one reason why I advocate homeschooling! There is so much to be learned, so much life to live!!! Home education gives you the flexibility to be all you can be.
There is no limit in education,
but as parents you will have to
encourage,
expose,
and
expound
constantly!
That is YOUR duty!

Kathy,
Thanks for this encouraging reminder. I especially appreciated these words:
“If you want your children to be intellectually challenged then you need to put them in situations that will challenge them. Don’t settle with the status quo. Don’t allow a lot of idle time.”
How true; keep the inspiration coming!
Blessings,
Lisa
This is a reminder to ME TOO!
