Creativity- Classical Music and Reading

Listening to good classical music is a good way to get your mind in a creative mode.

An exchange student once told me that the school children in Japan are required to listen to classical music before their lessons begin.

Classical music engages both sides of your brain at once. Not sure who to start with? Johann Sebastian Bach would be good! I also love George Frideric Handel .

Encourage your children to read, read, read! Turn off the TV and read. The more they read the more connections they will make. Don’t read just fiction, read biographies. There is nothing like reading about the lives of great men and women who used their creativity to overcome huge obstacles to accomplish marvelous things. Watching the movie does not compare to reading the book! If you have children that struggle with reading there are TONS of audio books at your library and online for download.

Carry a Big Stick is one of our favorite biographies. It is about President Theodore Roosevelt. If you want to know about a man that was always thinking of creative ways to handle situations it was President Roosevelt!!!

Titus 2:3 says that we are to be "...teachers of good things...". We believe that part of these good things are practical skills that we all need in every day life to care for our family and neighbors. One of our primary responsibilities as parents is equip our children with the skills and tools to one day be productive, well rounded adults. Children need to be exposed to many different areas of work. Not only should they know how to work, but they should want to work. May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us- yes, establish the work of our hands. Psalm 90:17

Thank you for the book suggestion. My husband just finished reading Summer of the Monkeys to the boys. That was the first time he has ever read a big book to them. They and I LOVED IT! I don’t want to ever go back to just only watching the boring movies. ;-) They don’t compare!
