Teaching Good Things, Practical Skills for Real Life

Equipping Families with Practical Skills for Real Life!

Beach Trip 2011

Olivia, Emma, a friend and I took off for the beach a few days ago. It was Olivia’s birthday gift to herself and she took all of us along for the ride!  :) It took us about 6 hours to get to Gulf Shores, Alabama.

Although Olivia is 21 (!!!), she is about 8 at heart!  She LOVES life and views everything as a great adventure! So it was no big surprise that at the beach the first thing she wanted to do was build a sand caste!  I watched as I laid on the quilt.

And then she had to bury her sister in the sand!

We rode rented bikes, including a tandem bike…have you ever seen 2 control freaks ride a tandem?

She Googled about this huge ferris wheel, which they all insisted on riding…

at night…with the wind whipping!

But not me…I have better sense than that! I kept mt feet planted on the ground!

Yes, that is Olivia with the look of misery on her face…

Did I mention it was WINDY up there?! :)

And what makes it better is when sister grabs the camera to document the fear and trembling.

And of course…they had to try to fly a kite.

This picture reflects Emma’s worldview; embracing life arms wide open…no fear and full of courage!

This was my favorite part… watching them from the quilt making memories and enjoying life!

It won’t be long and these girls will have families of their own

and ‘just girl trips’ to the beach will be few and far between.

Titus 2:3 says that we are to be "...teachers of good things...". We believe that part of these good things are practical skills that we all need in every day life to care for our family and neighbors. One of our primary responsibilities as parents is equip our children with the skills and tools to one day be productive, well rounded adults. Children need to be exposed to many different areas of work. Not only should they know how to work, but they should want to work. May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us- yes, establish the work of our hands. Psalm 90:17
