Are they REALLY worth it?
March 6, 2009
Emma has a puppy that she is trying to train, he is a golden retriever. He is ALL PUPPY! Our yard stays a mess, he’s dug out flower pots, torments the cats and he keeps retrieving toys from the neighbors yard to our yard…funny, but not funny! Last week Emma caught him pestering the cats, she came in and said, "I just don’t think he is worth it." I had to laugh!!! How many times on a bad day do we wonder if all the hard work of diligent parenting is worth it? Will they ever grow into responsible adults?
God is so good to continually bring us opportunities to grow and learn from each other…and even from our puppy, who will be a faithful, obedient dog one day as we love him, train him and discipline him!
Remember THIS TOO SHALL PASS!

AWWWW… he’s SOOOOO CUTE! That last quote “this too shall pass” is sobering.
I keep trying to remember it so that I can cherish every day with my little fellas.
Thanks for the great reminder. We just adopted a 1 yr old black lab, and in the hard work of training now. Sometimes wanting a pet seems ‘frivolous’ but there are good lessons in God’s creations. Funny how dog training advice is more ‘Biblical’ than most child-rearing advice these days.
what a timely message! we are *preparing* for the arrival of a puppy. it’s been interesting to watch our 13 year old son hone in on his “parenting/training” skills.
Good point Patty!
