A Moment of Thanksgiving

January 7, 2009

My precious daughter gave me a book for Christmas, it is Spurgeon's Sermons on Prayer. It has totally changed the way I pray. Needless to say you'll be seeing lots of Spurgeon's quotes on here! ;o)

SpurgeonÆs Sermons on Prayer

I'm just going to be real honest and open here.

Since Jeff became self-employed 3 years ago it has seriously been a day to day kind of life. It is hard to plan for the future because we are trying to get through today. I don't say that as a self-pity thing, because the benefits of working together all day every day is so worth it! Living this way has been so challenging, and many times it is discouraging; but at the same time it has made us better people, more dependent on God.

Winter is always a slow time for Jeff's type of work, but knowing that does not make it any easier to walk through it. The past 2 months Jeff has had VERY little 'paying' work., although he is constantly busy doing whatever he can find. He is one hard working man!

So this morning as I was praying, I asked God for a little glimmer of financial encouragement; because I do know that this hard time will pass, just as they always do. God is always faithful.

I checked my inbox and had a sale of a Crochet Gift Basket, Praise the Lord, it is not much money, but it was an encouragement. :o ) Just what I asked for!

This morning I was preparing a meal for another family that is having some sickness. On one hand I was saying to myself, 'We really cannot afford to be giving away food right now', but I was going to do it anyway. (We've had three additional people in our house for the past 2 weeks, which adds to the grocery expense.)

Then my mother calls:

She had been visiting here for the last few weeks and was returning home today. She stopped at a store that was closing and bought a BUNCH of canned goods at a fraction of the cost, and brought them back to our house. Praise the Lord! I don't share our struggles too much with her, because I respect my husband's integrity.

I share all of this to give God the glory! I asked and He answered. We may not always get what we want, but He is faithful to give what we need.

If you feel inclined, would you join us in prayer that hubby will get some good jobs soon?  :o ) God is good, all the time!

What blessings. I will gladly be praying for you all. My DH is also self-employed. It’s a week to week thing for us. Christmas and New Years is the roughest time. He has so much time off and doesn’t get paid. He just got paid today and it’s been about 2 weeks. I was starting to stress. I know that I shouldn’t have but honestly I did. Every week though God has met our needs. We are in awe every week. God is so good!!

    Hugs,
    Angie

Dear Kathy, I believe I might be the lady that ordered the crochet basket from you and I just had to post to let you know that the cake decorating DVD that I ordered from you for Christmas was the best gift that my 8 yo daughter received!! She and I have watched it several times and even attempted our first cake which was a HUGE success!! She practically begged me to buy the crochet one and when I went to “Something” ( We know who) urged me to get the gift basket. I just want to thank you for all of your hard work and dedication to the homemaking arts. Please think of making more DVD’s — I will be first in line to purchase them.

    In His Love, Mrs. J~
