A Lesson from Our Dog

September 9, 2009

We (Emma) has a golden retriever who is almost a year old, which means he is VERY MUCH still a PUPPY! He adores Emma.

Yesterday, Jeff and Emma went two blocks down to mow the neighbor’s yard. After they were there for about 30 minutes Levi showed up. He heard the mowers down there and ‘knew’ that it was Emma!

If she sits on the swing he wants to cuddle up close to her.

When we pull into the driveway he goes to the side of the car she is in and waits eagerly for her to open the door.

He responds to her in ways that he will not respond to the rest of us. Do you know why?

It is because she spends so much time with him, teaching him and playing with him. She has his heart!

I believe this same heart issue applies to parenting. Spending massive amounts of time with your children, not only teaching them, but PLAYING with them will help you win their heart.

When our kids were little they would get so excited when they heard Jeff’s truck roll in. They knew they’d get some serious wrestling in as soon as he came through the door…Josh was the funniest!

Make it a priority to play, to win their hearts!
