A Good Work Ethic- A Two Edged Sword…

Here is a guest post from Olivia..jpg)
Why is it so important that Christians have a good education; that they are aware of what is going on in the world around them and that they know how to be practical?
Our culture would like to divide these two groups: Workers and Thinkers. It is assumed that a mechanic with grease on his face would not, should not be as educated as a lawyer, a plumber as educated as a doctor. Those such as doctors, lawyers and politicians are considered the Thinking Man, the plumber, mechanic and construction worker the Working Man. A mob of mindless followers. By no means am I implying that Thinkers don’t ‘work’, their work is very important, but I am referring to more of a physical work.
This idea is unacceptable, especially for the Christian man. For a Christian Man is to be both working and thinking. In his work, he should be able to take on any conversation, be it politics, history or mathematics; be it under a car, in a basement or in an examination room. To engage the culture in conversation while fixing a leaky faucet is, in essence, the Christian’s battle. What did Christ do while he was preaching, but provide food for his followers. He was practical. Should we not be?
If we do whatever it is that we do, to the glory of God, to the best of our ability, be it fixing a broken leg or changing oil, we have an equal footing before God.
Imagine the impact that Christians would have if each one was both a Thinking and Working man (or woman); taking dominion of the physical world with his or her hands and the world of ideas with his or her wit. The battle tide would quickly turn in our favor, no principality can stand against an educated, skill equipped, God fearing people.
Christians, sharpen your swords and engage the culture at both levels; for this is your calling, this is taking dominion of the earth and the inhabitants therein.

Well said, Olivia! And well done, Kathy (and your hubby). Reading these words from your daughter lends credence to everything you say and teach here on “Teaching Good Things!” I’m so thankful I found your website, by the Lord’s Providence, of course. Blessings to you!
Thank you Lisa! It is ALL by Grace alone!
Yes, thank you!
For many years I didn’t feel comfortable with anything I did. I thought too much and looked down on homemaking. Things are so different for me now. I thank God for blogs and the internet and bloggers like your mother and so many other women who have opened my heart to homemaking. Great post!
